Comments on Robots Should Replace Cafeteria Ladies, Say Students
School children across the US are demanding an end to fallible cafeteria ladies - and a bold future of robot chefs! With videos. (Read
the complete story)
"In many ways the somewhat misnamed "Automats" of the late 19th and early 20th century were superior to school cafeterias in their current form:

"What these kids don't realize yet, is that for all the efficency of automata, food is very analog. The illusion of "instant" comes from having prepared food and placed it in a holding pattern of some means. Once we get to humanless resturants, about 2/3rds of the worlds population will be unemployed."

| "Yossi - I forgot to mention the automated restaurant idea from A Princess of Mars (1912), no doubt inspired by the first automats. Also, I forgot to link to these stories, which could provide the technology for robotic cafeterias:

B21 Kitchen Robot Shares Cooking Tips With Other Bots
ARMAR Humanoid Robot For The Kitchen
ReadyBot Robot Ready To Clean Your Kitchen"

"YEEEESSSS!!!!
LET'S PUT MORE PEOPLE OUT OF WORK!
IDIOTS!
AND IT'S SCHOOLD THAT ARE CONSIDERING THIS????
NO WONDER YOUR KID CAN'T READ!!!!!"
( 5/7/2009 5:28:04 AM) |
"About 10-20 years ago I saw a news thing about an automated pizzaria setup, intended to be installed in malls, that could be owned and operated by disable people such as quadrapalegics. The story was talking about how the robots couldn't handle pepperoni slices, so they were using pepperoni bits instead.
