Comments on MTHEL - Mobile Tactical High Energy Laser
The Mobile Tactical High Energy Laser (MTHEL) successfully tracked and destroyed a large-caliber test rocket at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. (Read the complete story)

"You must mean the White Sands Missile RANGE instead of "Ranch"."
(Bob 6/12/2004 1:03:34 PM)
"Aack! Must have been all the Reagan coverage this week - too many scenes on the ranch."
(Bill Christensen 6/13/2004 5:57:38 AM)
"Very intriguing... it is of interest to me, however, of how little media attention this technological breakthrough has attracted... you would think stations like the History Channel and Fox News would be crawling all over it. "
(Dawson 8/24/2004 11:03:52 PM)
"is it true that M-T.H.E.L WAS FIRED at a ufo hovering over the earth and i heard that it was caught on a nasa sat."
(jacob hallmark 7/25/2005 6:25:19 AM)
"Very neat technology!"
(royalpalms6@msn.com 8/31/2005 4:44:44 AM)
"thats no real "
(Bill 9/15/2005 9:17:06 AM)
"cool!"
(Alisha 9/25/2005 12:33:03 AM)
"very interesting, but I wonder how long it will be until this weapon finds its way into the hands of terrorists. who needs a law rocket when you can use a laser to knock a plane out of the sky. planes move much slower than a missle so you might not even need a radar sighting system, a simple telescopic sighting system could work as well for ranges up to perhaps several miles...and if the laser is using a nonvisible wavelength then the beam cwould not even be seen, so no one could tell where it came from... scary stuff indeed. on a similar note, the milatary/law enforcement depts are working on a 'guided lighting bolt' as it were, by projecting a electrical current down a path of ionized air which is formed by a laser, this path acts as a wire guide from the generator to the target. the voltage can be enough to 'taser' a person(can you say stun ray) to lethal destructive levels(millions of volts at thousands of amps)(can you say Blaster!). Range is line of sight with enough power, with no windage and gravity concerns.although it could not be used in a vaccume, only in an atmosphere.uses range from disabling an enemy to disabling vehicles to destroying targets with a targeted 'lighting strike' oddly enough, i myself proposed this idea to a friend of mine several years ago, and of course stupid me, i did not apply for a patent for it. oh, well, the goverment would have probably just taken it for the military to develope anyway..."

"Here is a video: http://kvikmynd.is/myndband.asp?id=1818 What I'm interested in is if it's at all possible that this system could be responsible for bringing down Columbia (weapons testing accidents are common) After all, Columbia was flying over New Mexico moments before it exploded, this weapon has been in tesxting since June 2000 and from what I've seen it looks like the weapon has the capability to bring down a space shuttle."
(gummih 11/18/2005 5:35:47 AM)
"This is so awsome. Its just like the nanobots that are coming. Cool!"
(Nathan 2/20/2006 10:03:46 AM)
"That isn't even real. I think that it is a scam. They never made a laser shooter."
(Nathan 2/20/2006 10:03:46 AM)
"The electricity through a laser is pretty impractical, but AFAIK it was proposed decades ago. Your patent would have been quite meaningless. I think it's only a matter of time before someone figures out that mirroring a projectile and adding a bit of insulation will ensure that the laser cannot shoot down more than one or two of a large barrage, ie 10, projectiles. It is still very interesting technology. However, compare the cost of a mortar round with $3000. And mortar rounds are a little easier to mass produce than nitrogen trifluoride and deuterium gas."
(Joe 7/25/2006 9:21:19 AM)
"Big lazer tell me hoe to build one for i can make it to the state"
(Peter Osinger 10/17/2006 12:26:20 PM)
"I hope they get this up and running ASAP. I live in Israel and the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran is worrying. MTHEL is probably the best defense against a nuclear first strike as Irans leader (can't spell his name) has threatened. "
(ben 11/10/2006 9:15:47 AM)
"*sigh* how disgusting... this is the kind of stuff that makes me depresesd. We live in a world so messed up that we have to create stuff like this (heat rays, death rays, lasers, etc... you catch my drift). Still cool I guess but a little depressing, no?"
(h kamal 11/28/2006 7:32:32 AM)
"For some time, I have been vainly asking the Pentagon to use high energy lasers to explode the roadside bombs. Can't such lasers be mounted on forward convoy vehicle's roofs? Could they save lives in Iraq?"
(Bohdan Szejner 5/29/2007 9:45:34 AM)
