Comments on Gesture-Controlled TV Update
Now you can control your TV with gestures, not just make gestures at your TV. (Read
the complete story)
"This is cool, but completely useless in deaf home. It would be confused with all the gestures! :D"
(Rolf 7/16/2007 1:07:12 PM) |
"That's a good point, Rolf. It is a neat idea, though. I wonder what the gesture is to turn it off. I can think of a good one... ;)"
(chelymorpha 7/16/2007 2:32:18 PM) |
"There is also prototype software available that allows you to use your hand as a 'mouse' to control your computer - but I can't find the reference. As I recall, you made an "OK" gesture by touching your forefinger and thumb together. When the camera on your computer sees you do that, it interprets that as a mouse-control gesture."
(Bill Christensen 7/18/2007 6:35:42 AM) |
"I notice there's no sci fi connection so I thought I'd provide one.
"The machine was rather difficult to operate. For years radios had been operated by means of pressing buttons and turning dials; then as the technology became more sophisticated the controls were made touch-sensitive--you merely had to brush the panels with your fingers; now all you had to do was wave your hand in the general direction of the components and hope. It saved a lot of muscular expenditure, of course, but meant that you had to sit infuriatingly still if you wanted to keep listening to the same program."
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams."
(Erik Nodacker 7/18/2007 9:44:02 PM) |
"Eric - great find; I've added it to the article and also to the index. See gesture-controlled device."
(Bill Christensen 7/19/2007 5:37:11 AM) |
"Thanks Bill. It wasn't a 'find' so much as deep and abiding memory. I've read that book so many times I think it's imprinted on my DNA."
