Rid Thyself Of Ads On The Newsbox

Is there a way to skip ads? Science fiction Grandmaster Robert Heinlein wondered the same think in 1941. In his classic novel Methuselah's Children, he created the idea of a Newsbox or News Receptor that could capture video news broadcasts. Must we watch advertisements?

The machine hummed and clicked and again spoke up. "The DAILY DATA, the only midwest news-"

"Can't we scramble that commercial?" suggested Lazarus. His companion peered at the control panel.

"Doesn't seem to be equipped for it."

According to well-informed Redditors, adding a period to the domain name will do the trick!

It seems the trick only works in certain browsers. In my tests, it worked in Google Chrome on both Mac desktop and Android mobile, as well as in Chromium-based browsers such as the new version of Microsoft Edge and the non-Chromium Safari. However, it failed in Firefox, where inserting the period simply returned me to the YouTube homepage.
