Skingun Now More Advanced, Apparently
RenovaCare has been working on the skingun prototype, which I covered several years ago.
RenovaCare, Inc. is developing first-of-their-kind autologous (self-donated) stem cell therapies for the regeneration of human organs, and novel medical grade liquid sprayer devices. The company’s pipeline products under development target the body’s largest organ, the skin. The RenovaCare CellMist™ System will use the patented SkinGun™ to spray a liquid suspension of a patient’s stem cells – the CellMist™ Solution – onto wounds. RenovaCare is developing its CellMist™ System as a promising new alternative for patients suffering from burns, chronic and acute wounds, and scars. In the U.S. alone, this $45 billion market is greater than the spending on high-blood pressure management, cholesterol treatments, and back pain therapeutics. In addition to the SkinGun™, the company is developing a medical-grade sprayer that uses a liquid-into-air stream system to disperse a gentle spray of wound care and/or irrigation fluids over a wound area.
Science fiction fans were familiarized with the idea of spray-on skin in the works of Philip K. Dick. In his 1960 story Dr. Futurity, he wrote about art-derm:
Over her lacerated right shoulder he sprayed art-derm; it sealed off the open wound, halted bleeding, and prohibited infection.
Heinlein fans who think that the master might have mentioned this idea are right - see surrogate skin.
The company has a video here which has not been submitted to Youtube, but is hidden on their site, rather like being at bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard."
