3D Printed Clothing 'Escapism' Couture Collection
3D fabrication techniques were used in the creation of twelve different couture clothing creations that appeared in Paris fashion shows.

And for her Paris couture week debut, Ms. van Herpen has once again exceeded expectations.
This latest collection, entitled Escapism, features twelve couture styles evoking a truly futuristic fashion sensibility.
The show picks up where her read-to-wear collection left off ó the phenomenal investigation of 3D printing in wearables.
Models wearing 3D printed versions of van Herpenís trademark radial exoskeletons and mesh volumes marched down the runway in United Nude shoes and a few Stephen Jones headpieces.
The 3D printed dresses and breastplates form a sort of extruded plastic armor with breathing vents.
SF great Robert Heinlein made use of the idea of customized clothing created on-the-spot in his 1941 classic Methuselah's Children:
He sat himself down in a sales cubicle and dialed the code number for kilts. He let the pictures of cloth designs flicker past his eyes while he let the persuasive voice of the catalog drone on until a pattern showed up which was distinctly unmilitary and not blue, whereupon he arrested the display and punched the combination for his size.
The plain blue uniform kilt he stuffed in the refuse hopper of the sales cubicle and left, nattily and somewhat flamboyantly attired.
