'Virtual Cocoon' Virtual Reality Helmet
The Virtual Cocoon is the name British researchers give their virtual reality helmet prototype. It is designed to engage all five of the senses for the total reality experience.

It combines a high-def dynamic screen, chemicals sprayed under the wearer's nose and into the wearer's mouth and a fan and heater for humidity and heat. Surround speakers present ambient noise characteristic of the chosen environment.
Professor Alan Chalmers, of Warwick University, believes that the device will be ready for sale within five years.

Science fiction fans, weaned on virtual realities as varied as the The Veldt nursery from Ray Bradbury's 1956 novel The Illustrated Man, the Saga from Arthur C. Clarke's 1956 novel The City and the Stars and the reality tape from Philip K. Dick's mind-blowing 1969 story The Electric Ant, can't wait to have their very own Virtual Cocoon virtual reality helmet.
SF fans who enjoy watching depictions of virtual reality like the Holodeck on Star Trek: The Next Generation and the virtual reality portion of the film The Lawnmower Man have their own wish list for this technology.
