Sweatbot SAM - Sweating Agile Manniquin
This sweating robot SAM (short for sweating agile mannequin) is helping clothing scientists to develop the next generation of sub-zero clothing for elite athletes (and eventually you and me). We have entered the age of the sweatbot.

(Sweating Agile Robot SAM and Professor Rossi)
Professor Rossi and his team at the University of Zurich have created the SAM the "sweatbot" in the very image of the modern American consumer. Thick nozzles of consumables are bolted right onto SAM's face.
Better SAM than me.

(Cables feed moisture to SAM)
"This is SAM. SAM is simulating the heat and moisture transfer of the human body. We heat up the surface of the mannequin to 34 degrees centigrade, that corresponds to skin temperature, and it has 125 sweating nozzles to simulate the whole release of sweat," says Professor Rossi.
Philip K. Dick referred to a handicloset, a handy robot that could hang your clothes up for you. However, I've been trying to think of a science fiction robot that helps us keep up as consumers, but I'm coming up blank. Readers?
20-Aug-2009 Update: I've added an entry for consumption robots from The Midas Plague by Frederik Pohl. In the story, which was published in 1954, robots were called upon to help human beings consume faster and more efficiently. I also added the illustration from the original magazine appearance of this story - so take a look at the consumption robots.
End update.
