NovaDreamer Dream Induction
The NovaDreamer Lucid Dream Induction Device is a device that helps you have lucid dreams - dreams in which you are aware that you are dreaming and have some measure of conscious control over your dream.

The NovaDreamer detects when you are in the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep; it is an external indicator that you are dreaming.
NovaDreamer then provides you with cues (flashing lights or sounds) that you can sense. Once you have acclimated yourself to the device, you can learn to recognize that the cues are telling you that you are dreaming.
Peter Watts wrote about a similar kind of device in his 1999 novel Starfish, the lucid dreamer:
Alice Nakata lies twitching on her bunk, eyes closed... Leads trail away from insertion points on her face and wrist, drape away to a lucid dreamer on the bedside shelf.
Lucid dreaming is fun to do; it will be interesting to see what people do with the NovaDreamer.
