Reborg-Q Security Robot Now With Face Recognition
The Reborg-Q security robot now offers a face recognition feature to be on the look-out for particular individuals as Reborg-Q goes autonomously about its daily rounds. I covered the robot exactly one year ago on its introduction (see Reborg-Q May You Shop In Peace for more information).

As Reborg-Q rolls around the airport, mall or hotel, it examines the faces of passersby. The memory of the robot contains images that threaten the security of the location. It can also be moved to particular locations (like the entrance to an area) to perform monitoring tasks. The face authentication software is by Omron's OKAO Vision.
Once it identifies a face, it can notify the human security forces that a wanted person is present. The robot can also be controlled remotely by joystick, to keep the suspect within view. The robot should be ready for purchase in 2008; it was recently demonstrated at the 2007 International Robot Exhibition.
Reborg-Q is just the ticket to help mall security guards conserve their strength in a nice padded chair, while sending the robot out to look for persons of interest.
