MusicPad Pro: Digital Sheet Music File Player

Freehand's MusicPad Pro is a tablet-based platform for viewing and composing music; it is compatible with Macs and PCs. It has a 12.1 TFT LCD screen and is about 13"x10"x2". It is self-lighting (no music stand light needed).

(From Freehand.)

You can store your entire music library on this device, using digital sheet music brought in from music composition programs and even scanned sheet music files. As it turns out, there is a substantial market in digital sheet music.

Sites like music-scores.com have some free sheet music files to download; they also have a paid subscription model - $24.95 for a year's unlimited access.

Musicnotes.com (another player in the digital sheet music business) says that it has paid out over $500,000 in royalties; the price for digital sheet music has remained relatively constant, while the value of an mp3 of the same music has gone down.

This seems like exactly the sort of accessory you might want for that visi-sonor from Isaac Asimov's 1940's Foundation series. After all, the visi-sonor was traditionally played in a darkened room. And for the latest in computer-synthesized accompaniment, see the Science Fiction in the News story Vocaloid Voice - Soul Singing Synthesis.

I'm wondering if music publishers feel the same way as the RIAA does about file copying and file swapping? If you use digital sheet music, do you pay for it? Any comments?
