| "I'll have to look it up, I seem to recall Carl Sagan mentioning in "Broca's Brain" that he was inspired by some sort of science fiction. How he was impacted by it, I'm not quite sure, so I'll try to get the exact passage. I also recall hearing that researchers at the University of Tokyo have been researching Active Camouflage, inspired by series such as "Ghost in the Shell". Alas, I can't recall were I read it. | "The 1935 Gene Autry serial, "The Phantom Empire" had examples of "wireless telephones" & video surveillance & communication. Radio transmissions from Murania were encoded so as to be undetected by us surface dwellers. Robots were used on assembly lines. They had an example of a cruise missle with a "radium bomb" warhead. The missle was guided by an operator using a cylindrical map, e.g. terrain guidance. This was my earliest recollection of science fiction. From there it was "Destination Moon","Forbidden Planet", and all the other 50's movies.
