"Nope, Martin Caidin borrowed the term for his novel 'Cyborg' (the inspiration, as you noted, for 'The Six Million Dollar Man' and 'The Bionic Woman' TV shows). Cybernetics (the science of interfaces between machines and living things, not just humans) and the idea of cybernetic organisms had been around for awhile. Interestingly, the first bionic arm was successfully (is 'installed' the right word?) on a patient this year. "
