Runaround by Isaac Asimov:
Science Fiction Inventions, Technology and Ideas

"A robot must react to orders, but must, on the other hand, have sense enough to disobey if the order would destroy it. But that can lead to a most embarrassing sort of situation, when a robot gives its owners a handsome runaround! "

('Runaround' by Isaac Asimov)

Interesting short story by Asimov, detailing the work of engineers on the planet Mercury. This story is significant primarily because it introduces the Three Laws of Robotics (Asimov refers to them interchangeably as the Rules of Robotics). Read it here.
