Books and Stories

Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950) was born in Motihari, Bengal, India; his father was a civil servant for the British government. He moved to England in 1904 and began to write at an early age, but did not particularly enjoy school. He became a professional writer in 1928 and assumed the name 'George Orwell' in 1933; the publication of Animal Farm made him prosperous and 1984 made him famous.
