Born 1944 in Modesto, CA; raised on a walnut ranch. Attended USC film school; while in school, he made various films including THX-1138. He co-wrote and directed the award-winning film American Graffiti. He is best known for Star Wars, box office champ in its time and winner of seven Academy Awards.
