My only question, which no one seems to be asking, is 'Why don't the humans get a vault?' (Read
the complete story)

Since we're citing movies and post-apocalyptic sources, I'd think that Fallout, with its heavy post-apocalyptic theme as well as a story centered on Vaults meant to keep people and, plants, alive after a nuclear war would be very fitting for this piece."
