Comments on Sony LIBRIe E-Ink Electronic Book Update
The Sony LIBRie electronic book solves the most serious problems of past e-book hardware. And, in the near future, it may be able to replace parchment copies of The Daily Prophet, the wizard newspaper from Harry Potter. (Read the complete story)

"The most unfortunate thing about this reader is that the fabulous hardware is married to a proprietary format and a terrible Digital Rights Management scheme. Somebody at Sony needs to read Laurence Lessig's Free Culture: How Big Media Uses Technology and the Law to Lock Down Culture and Control Creativity in a hurry. Read a very complete review at Dottocomu"

"Will be ok this device providing that user can download own content such as free ascii ebooks. If locked to pay per book then use is limited greatly. Should come with user publisher software like rocket ebook did. That took ascii plus HTML content direct."

"The DRM scheme will kill this before it has a chance. The four location download is okay, but the idea that a downloaded book should lock up after four months is quite unsatisfactory. That practice will prevent the Librie's suitability for replacing bulky (and damned heavy) technical guides and other reference works. Imagine having quick access to 10000 pages of medical reference material or having an O'Reilly bookshelf set on this! Sony has certainly gone wrong with this DRM scheme."

"Why don't sony create a 'hitchhikers guide to the galaxy', type thing with this, it would be really cool!!!!"
