Comments on Defending Against Harmful Nanotechnology
The winners of the Lifeboat Foundation Guardian Award warned us about nanomachines, but at least half a century after hard-working sf authors did. (Read
the complete story)
"Who or what institution or what group of people should make the first self- or other (re)producing nanomachine - the seedmachine or the stemmachine - that - and some of its descendants - can be ordered to make many different kinds of other nanomachines with different or none reproducing ability, work ability and utility?
Should that seedmachine or stemmachine be destroyed after all the usefull kinds of non-universal reproducing and reproducible orderable/limitedly re-programmable machines have been made?
How to handle the technology so that the civilian use orderable replicating machines can go from person to person at least as freely as open source software? In Africa, they could go from aid worker to some villagers and then to other villagers, increasing cheaply and locally but unnaturally i.e not without human or robot decision and consent.

"The best nanotech story I've read is 3000 Years.
Takes place 50 years from now and is about the abuse of nanotechnology by anarchists known as nano-hackers who are similiar to present-day computer hackers. But instead of writing computer viruses, they create what are known as nano-viruses which are thousands of time more dangerous.
The book has some great technology in other areas too..."
