Comments on A Rogue Planet - Right In Our Neighborhood
An interstellar world, nomad planet, free-floating planet or orphan planet. (Read
the complete story)
"There have been a couple of rogue planets featured in Dr. Who as this wiki page details, http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue_planet"
(Wisconsin Whoivan 11/19/2012 7:56:06 AM) |
"Like Skardal...

(Skardal threatens the Daleks)
"
(Bill Christensen 11/19/2012 4:20:56 PM) |
"I believe there was an episode of the original Twilight Zone about Earth being flung away from the Sun to become a cold frozen wandering planet"
( 11/22/2012 7:59:32 PM) |
"Brrrr... I'm shivering just thinking about the idea. Sounds perfect for The Twilight Zone, very conceptual no expensive props etc."
( 11/23/2012 8:15:13 AM) |
"I believe there was a Star Trek (original series) about a Planet in interstellar space, it turned out to have been hollowed out and occupied by a smallish civilization."
(Dewtey 11/26/2012 5:57:15 AM) |
"Dewtey, I'm not recalling that one. I do remember the planet belonging to Trelayne, which I think was a rogue world that he controlled. I think."
(Bill 11/26/2012 10:09:51 PM) |
"@Bill: I believe the Star Trek (TOS) episode Dewty refers to is "For the World Is Hallow, and I Have Touched the Sky". If I recall correctly, it was actually a hallowed out asteroid serving as a generation ship.
One wonders if we ever get arround to Interstellar Voyages these Rogue Planets would make for pit stops - gather fuel, metals, and anything else for the next leg of the journey. "
(Gatomon41 11/28/2012 1:59:35 PM) |
"Gatomon41, I just watched the preview on YouTube. I'm having trouble processing this, but I believe this is a ST:TOS episode that I have never seen. I'm still stunned. BTW, your idea about using rogue planets as way stations for interstellar travel is very striking. Has that been used as a plot device in any sf? because it should be."
(Bill Christensen 11/28/2012 2:13:50 PM) |
"Not Star Trek: The Original Series, but Star Trek: Enterprise (with Scott Bakula as Captain Johnathan Archer) had an episode specifically named "Rogue Planet". [Season 1, episode 18 -- airdate March 20, 2002] Though eternally in "night" the wandering planet had an ecology based on non-solar heat sources (presumably from geothermal/volcanic and/or terrestrial radiation sources)
