It takes from 3 to 8 pounds of nutrient to create just one pound of meat; we can do better. (Read

"Yoghurt was a fringe food?
You're confusing the US of A with reality as a whole.
People have been eating yoghurt for thousands of years...
I'm not sure it was a fringe food in the US in the 60's... Kellog fed his patients yoghurt in the early 1900's."

"Perhaps I should have said "In the typical grocery store in the United States in the 1960's, yogurt was a fringe food". I grew up then, so I know; you might have been able to find one brand, like Dannon, if you looked hard enough. Nothing like today, when you find a dozen different brands, each with a dozen different styles. I, on the other hand, grew up close to the UM campus in Ann Arbor, the no-sugar-added yogurt-eating, kefir-slurping, granola-munching capital of the Midwest."

"Peter, I do remember that cartoon; I think that's exactly what Margaret Atwood had in mind as far as ChickieNobs are concerned. Jeff, I sometimes think spam stands for Scientifically Produced Animal Matter, but I think it starts with real animal parts... I think."

"Cultured meat doesn't have an immune system, so the only way to stop bacterial growth is by adding antibacterial agents to the bath of chemicals it grows in. This is a big problem for large volume production.
It will be many years before they have a safe process for making this stuff in large quantities.
