Comments on Ad-Supported Free Telephone Calls
To make a free international call, just listen to a short ad or two. For now. (Read
the complete story)
"Eh, like television and now internet TV, it sounds good at first. Then, slowly as the company grows, the ads get longer first 30 seconds, then a minute. Then you might hear two 30 second or 1 minute ads. Finally they introduce a pay requirement for premium features which slowly become required as fewer and fewer people use the service without them. In the end you end up with a pay service that still requires you to listen to ads and everyone else has adopted this method as well because it makes more money than their current methods.
As far as I am concerned, if I'm gonna listen to/watch ads, I shouldn't have to pay for the service. Also most of my calls aren't much longer than 30 seconds anyway so why should I listen to 15 seconds of ads for a 30 second call?"
