Comments on Assault Intervention Device - A Pain Ray Gun
Should this device be used in the United States? (Read the complete story)

"Of course, the works "pain ray" reminds one of Asimov's "neuronic whip". Not to mention the pain ray in Crashing Suns by Edmund Hamilton"
(Winchell Chung 9/23/2010 12:03:38 PM)
"I have a reference for the neuronic whip but I don't recall the pain ray from Crashing Suns. Readers?"
(Bill Christensen 9/23/2010 6:49:44 PM)
"That's odd, I thought I got the Crashing Suns reference from you. From Crashing Suns by Edmund Hamilton (1928) I took a step through the darkness toward one of the corridor's doors. But in an instant I had halted, for through the darkness a buzzing sound came to me and at the same time fiery, tearing pain ran through every nerve in my body... It was evident that our strange captors were aware in some way of every move we made in the darkness, and that the buzzing was of some pain-producing weapon of theirs. Later we were to learn that it was one that set up electrical pain- currents in the nervous system. Pain is but a sensation or electrical current in a certain nerve, and this strange weapon was one that by induction set up pain- currents of more or less intensity in every nerve in the body. "
(Winchell Chung 9/24/2010 9:33:44 AM)
"You're right, I do have it. I had named it something else that was too vague - I try to use the author's own words as much as possible. So I've renamed it, and here's the link - pain ray. Thanks."
