Comments on Heliodisplay - Futuristic Display Technology
Films like Star Wars show how images projected into the air might be used. The Heliodisplay from IO2Technology projects images - both still pictures and video - into mid-air. It works with most video sources. It is also interactive, forming a floatin (Read the complete story)

"This invention rocks I love star wars"
(Yecenia 1/2/2005 10:15:36 AM)
"Such displays are common in the control rooms of combat spacecraft to display the strategic and tactical situation, e.g., PASSAGE AT ARMS by Glen Cook."
(Nyrath 1/3/2005 7:00:13 AM)
"Are you sure you ever watched Star Wars? Its Chewbacca and R2-D2 playing the holographic game, not Skywalker."
(Dan 1/3/2005 7:02:16 AM)
"D'oh! Yes, I saw the movie when it came out - but I had to sit really close to the screen, so I might have missed some stuff... thanks for writing. Luke was practicing with jedi training aids with Obiwan... I think..."
(ChiefTechnovelgist 1/3/2005 9:05:18 AM)
"Can it show pictures?"
(PP 1/3/2005 11:45:09 AM)
"This exact display seems to be used in 'La femme Nikita'. No Holograms, just 2D, and always on top of tables."
(Daniel Eriksson 1/5/2005 4:24:24 AM)
"Heads-up-displays for new commercial spacecraft and aircraft, as well as personal aircraft."
(Jovian 1/6/2005 9:50:36 AM)
"I thought somebody would have already mentioned this, but I guess I'll have to. The way the device works reminds me of the device that Captain Bridger (Roy Scheider) had in his his room on the television series "seaQuest DSV"."
(Jarrod Harmier 1/10/2005 11:55:14 PM)
"The device used in the first season of seaQuest D.S.V. (to display an A.I. avatar for consultation) is real, it uses a fog (air mixed with vapour) screen to display the image, I don't think that any post-production special effect work is used for that scene, though for more clarification you got to ask the people of Amblin. http://www.fogscreen.com/ . While the device in the article don't mix anything at all with the air, though it probably condense the air a bit so that image can be displayed, the name Heliodisplay is a little bit distorting though, since it didn't have anything to do with the sun (Helio), something like "AirScreen" or something like that probably would be much better suited. Personally, this kind of display is quite nice if you want to people to touch the display and not risking breaking it from overuse. As for volumetric display, I remember a display that spin a screen and then the image is displayed on it, to gives the impression of 3D."
(E.A.C. 4/26/2005 3:02:05 AM)
"Anyone noticed an ozon smell around it? or indeed water vapor in the air? or temprature changes? I think it's cool technology but get real... They don't say anything about how it works, only about how it does not work... So.. in order for me to search more on this subject... They must give some info... Even if they say they use static (seems logical couse i've read they get the incoming air past metal plates...)"
(sceptic 5/8/2005 12:41:47 AM)
"If you're interested in buying a Heliodisplay, and meeting the inventor, here's an auction on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5235836491. The starting bid is $1. It's a great opportunity to get a limited first edition unit You can see images, videos, and read more about the auction and Heliodisplay at http://www.buyhelio.com/ "

"When does the holodeck from Star Trek become available?"
( 9/1/2005 1:02:43 PM)
"It would be great if it could also be used a a tv screen or display screnn. pljames@brmemc.net"
(pljames 9/6/2005 1:24:43 PM)
"It would evn be nice to have one on a drivers side facing the drivers winshield for a display of dials&guages for reference to the driver. pljames@brmemc.net"
(pljames 9/6/2005 1:37:24 PM)
"I gave a description of such device to my student last year and today one of my students showed me an article regarding this matter. Since I am a fan of Startrek series. I think things will happen as the writter of that movie predicted."
(Masood Shemshadi 11/2/2005 9:43:08 PM)
"real wonder"
(murali 11/11/2005 6:20:26 AM)
"Absolutely Amazing....wow"
(Christopher Stevens 1/5/2006 10:58:29 AM)
"Fanciful. I'm sure it will find it's way into some novelty promotional displays, etc., but operating in this way surely makes atmospheric conditions a variable in image quality. "
(Cosmolopigus 1/22/2006 3:49:36 PM)
"So this is what we get instead of Holograms?...meh."
( 2/14/2006 10:52:54 PM)
""Are you sure you ever watched Star Wars? Its Chewbacca and R2-D2 playing the holographic game, not Skywalker." NOBODY CARES ABOUT WOHM IS PLAYING!!! IF YOU WASTED YOUR TIME SEEING STARWARS, STARTREK OR WHATHEVER, DON'T EXPECT TO WASTE OUR TIME READING YOUR NON APPORTING COMMENTARY."
(mADA 4/13/2006 2:12:02 PM)
"can that pictures be in the air for how long can it be displayed in the day time can the machine be water proofed"
(display iamges in air 6/16/2008 2:40:19 AM)
"wil heliodisplay display text ?"
( 3/21/2010 10:21:11 AM)
"Yes, but it's a relatively low resolution device. You won't be able to read tiny text."
(Bill Christensen 3/21/2010 12:13:17 PM)
