This policy statement focuses on large-scale efforts to geoengineer the climate system to counteract the consequences of increasing greenhouse gas emissions. (Read
the complete story)
"Verne's 1889 book "Sans dessus dessous" (translated as "Topsy Turvy") revolves (no pun intended) around a plot to move the axis of the Earth and make the Arctic accessible."
(Yossi Preminger 7/22/2009 11:13:02 PM) |
"Whatever happened to that big project in Russia where they were going to recreate a certain environment the Woolly Mammoth lived in back in the Ice Age? It was supposed to be Russia's way of fighting global warming as well as conducting a huge ecosystem experiment. They were bringing in African elephants to serve as an analogue for the Mammoths, siberian tigers as an analogue for the sabretooth smilodon, African rhinos replacing Woolly rhinos, etc, etc. "
