Comments on Bacteria Eats Plastic; What Could Go Wrong?
Clever teen has a great idea - maybe somewhere in nature, the plastic bag problem has already been solved. (Read the complete story)

"What could go wrong? Nothing! This is huge! All we need to do is control where it is so it doesn't destroy anything we still need such as the insulation of electrical wires in the ground."

"GO BACTERIA THAT EATS PLASTIC! IM ALL FOR IT GLOBAL WARMING IS COMING LETS KEEP THE PLANET ALIVE AFTER 2012!"
(ariel 4/2/2009 4:16:07 PM)
"Unfortunately something like this breakthrough won't stop the production of more polymers, because then it would seem ok because we have the magic solution that makes it disappear. I just hope they study and experiment with it extensively before using it."
(Sue 6/10/2009 11:16:30 PM)
"This is nothing special its GE bacteria/fungus that he got from the landfills which are full of it, he did not cultivate it himself. This stuff eats plastic, clothes, human hair, teeth etc. Look up the CDCs study on Morgellons our enviroment has been contaminated with this stuff for at least the last 15 years and people are getting sick from it."
(John_Galt 7/31/2009 7:46:27 PM)
"A solution I've heard, for petroleum-eating bacteria to clean up spills, is to splice in a "suicide" gene that would make the bacteria self-destruct after a few days. That way they don't hang around and go wild, eat what they're not supposed to eat, mutate into unexpected forms, etc. "
