Comments on We All See The Future Like Dick's 'Prethink'
Mind-blowing idea about human cognition makes Philip K. Dick's prethink more thinkable. (Read
the complete story)
"Millions of years, and we can only prethink 10 seconds ahead? We need to put in a lot more effort."
(Fortigurn 5/22/2008 5:14:47 PM) |
"We also pre-hear. Think of the old Rown and Martin sketch where one person reads out a list of instructions while the other recites them as soon as heard. If the reader makes a mistake, the second person will correct the mistake without thinking."
(Peter Jacobs 5/23/2008 8:04:58 PM) |
"I think that's anticipation of what the text should be rather than actual 'pre-hearing'. In that case the anticipated word could be incorrect."
(Fortigurn 5/26/2008 12:06:31 AM) |
"Prediction is easy, getting it wrong is at least as easy. Plenty of economic and psychological research showing how poor people are at predicting their own future happiness in response to various events. If these guys are right then they've shown our ability to predict even a 10th of second into the future is also fallible."
