| "I'd say that several of the military SF included this feature. Right off hand, I'm only remembering fairly recent ones, but David Weber has "Medical Pharmacopes" in many of his stories. These are one component of a complete military augmentation package, and include various drugs to aid the soldier, and are able to administer the drugs automatically when the lifesigns monitors inform the augment controllers that there is need.
