Comments on LANdroid WiFi Robots
DARPA is at it again, this time looking to establish networks on the fly. (Read
the complete story)
"Will this be tracked by the other radio networks which is more efficient than the present one"
(Santo 6/20/2007 8:40:26 PM) |
"The system for the Monkeys won't work for DARPA's LANdroid vision. The Monkeys' network only needs to transmit low sized and periodic packets. The DARPA vision, by contrast, is for a high capacity, high throughput network with very high to continuous connectivity. That will require a much higher bandwidth and throughput than the highly intermittant Monkey network. The sophistication is higher (to maintain continous network connectivity) and the power requirements are much higher."
(Michael LeBauer 7/2/2007 3:46:21 PM) |
"In Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge, a USMC quick reaction squad (deployed by sub-orbital rockets) employs a "combat network" of scatterable LAN nodes. Not only do these nodes create a self-establishing network, they forcibly take control of exisiting wireless devices. The squad also deploys with a small army's worth of networked, loitering munitions ranging from non-lethal systems to tactical-nukes, giving the commander the ability to resolve even the worst bio/nuke terror threat with the minimum neccesary force within minutes."
