"The Japanese pronounciation of the English word "Idol" is actually "A-I-Do-Ru", though I don't know if "Idoru" might be a slang or not. Being haven't read the novel, I don't the exact meaning of Tei Toei's name, but "Toei" often refered to being operated by the metropolitan government, Tei Toei wouldn't happen to be a government girl, would she? Anyway, check out Macross Plus' Sharon Apple, who was a fully computer generated idol singer. Macross Plus was released in 1994~1995."
