"when was this invented"
(mofo 4/25/2004 11:52:05 AM )
"Early versions of the zoetrope were around in the 1830's; a sequence of still pictures were placed on the interior wall of a slotted barrel - the "moving picture" was viewed by looking through the slots as the barrel spun. The first cameras to take moving pictures were invented in the early 1890's by Thomas Edison and William Dickinson. It was Dickinson who invented the sprocket driven film camera with a synchronized shutter.
The modern film era is considered to have begun on on December 28, 1895, in Paris, France. The Lumiere brothers presented the first commercial exhibition of a projected motion picture to a paying public in the world's first movie theatre - in the Salon Indien, in the Grand Cafe on Paris' Boulevard des Capucines. See http://www.filmsite.org/filmh.html for lots more information."
