(Lyssa 9/14/2005 12:37:08 PM )
"I thibk the short story is exceptionally well-written, even though i find the story kind of transparent. You could figure out the ending from the first line. But good book. "
(Buddha 10/14/2005 12:39:23 AM )
"the story is a very good science-fiction. great for teaching kids around teen level about the science-fiction world and about what technology could do that to us in the future."
(erica 10/19/2005 12:46:38 PM )
"did any of you relize the similarities between this story and peter pan? 1.wendy and peter nursery 2.both groups of childeren 3.looking for a way out of something 4.both has a child/childeren that doesn't want to go somewhere"

"i'm in 7th and it was pretty easy for me. a little too predictable for my taste though."
(ariel 10/19/2005 12:56:14 PM )
"I thought that this story was fantastic! The story was interesting and fun. Shows how technology replaces the love or connection between parents and children"
(cnc 11/21/2005 10:09:54 AM )
"soo., umm there are two foreshadowing events or things that foreshadow the ending what are they?"
( 2/12/2006 10:55:02 AM )
"i loved the story i am in grad eeight and it was very interseting and easy oto understand
(Good for you! I don't think I read Bradbury until high school, although I read Jules Verne much earlier.

"im in grade 9 and i thought the story was pretty easy to understand....i just hate answering stupid questions on it"
(erin 2/26/2006 9:16:17 PM )
"I'm also in Grade 9 in Canada. Theres like 6 pages of questions that I have to answer."
(C. 2/27/2006 5:40:02 AM )
"i think the veldt was overall okay. at first it was a little confusing but then i understood it better about the parents acutally being eaten and all. I didn't really think that would happened... even though the clues were there.. like the wallet being chewed up with blood and the screams from the children. But i too hate answering questions on it. I really didn't know how peter pan and peter from the veldt compare. Anyway... it was okay."
(jola 3/8/2006 7:43:36 PM )
"I thought that the Veldt was an excellent story. it made me realize that too much technology can ruin your life, i have cut back on television and other technology uses, the Veldt rocked out loud!"
( 3/9/2006 11:18:50 AM )
"I loved the story of the veldt, It was very confusing in the beginning, but after a while, the story started coming together well, It seemed as if there was a moral top the story "too much technology can be a bad thing" this stiry i would reccommend to a person of any age."
( 3/9/2006 11:21:09 AM )
"I am still trying to figure out what happen to the parents. If any one knows the answer please enter here."
(rambo 3/20/2006 6:19:46 PM )
"Unfortunately, I don't think that the parents make it alive to the end of the story."
(Bill Christensen 3/23/2006 10:52:07 AM )
"Any story that has the parents being eaten by lions, and the children doing nothing, is a horible disgrace to Literature weather it be for children teens or adults!!"
(Kelly 4/26/2006 8:51:14 AM )
"Im in ninth grade too, but thats not the point, I bet you guys didn't to write a frickin 4 page analysis on this... question: so would wendy and peter count as a classical allusion from peter pan (never seen the story)?"
( 5/3/2006 8:56:54 PM )
"how did illusory lions eat the parents?"
( 5/10/2006 6:58:08 AM )
"Hi, I have to do a prject on The Veldt but I dont know what the rising action is and I need two more points on the Exposition, but otherwise the story was good. ( grade 10 student at Hillcrest High School, Ottawa, Canada"
(Thalia-Isabel 9/24/2006 7:31:54 AM )
"ok good book, but the worst questions to answer, and just to say trchnolgoy is a great thing and what happened in the veldt would not happen in real life if you think about it, because we have had technology since man showed up on earth, it has not messed us up yet, so why would it now. Also I have to add English sucks!!"
( 9/24/2006 9:50:06 AM )
"wow.....i´m a spanish girl studing english teaching. i had to read the story for a university assignment and i really loved it. it´s great!!!"
(gabby 9/28/2006 3:38:25 PM )
"Interesting, i thoroughly enjoyed reading The Veldt my first time around in grade 7-8 (I borrowed it off of my sister who was writing an essay on it at the time) but since then i was rather dissapointed in its simplicity. Currently im in a Canadian high-school student in grade 12U and although i still found it interesting in its irony, and veiled sarcasm, (things i wouldnt have gotten way back when) the whole story radiates cliche. Though, then again perhaps that is intentional? Ah well, I appreciate the neat summary, as I'm writing an essay on The Veldt without the Veldt it self on hand. This makes things difficult. So, back to work for me, and kudos to the author."
(Josh 9/28/2006 4:04:54 PM )
"Correction. I am a Canadian high-school student. . . Yes..."
(Josh 9/28/2006 4:12:47 PM )
"i think veldt story was end up from the airport when davis mcclean help to them to get ou of the house the childeren were gonna to airport the whole parent wee live a t the moment of house technology none was eaten by lion. the parent of children said how did we inuped in this technology house they ecsape from every thing and as davis MCClean's that how the was end up"
(mike 10/16/2006 8:00:19 AM )
"I read this story in grade 9, and again this year(grade 10). This year made way more sense and i noticed the foreshadowing with the bloody scarf and chewed up wallet....it was pretty creapy though. "
(emilie 10/18/2006 7:46:44 PM )
"I LOVE this story I am in the 6th grade, & in advanced lang. arts, we read this story. In the end, I think that the children ended up being more mechanical, the house more like a real person. I also think that it was a futuristic dream of the author(it was written 1950, after all!). It shocked me, really. It is really getting to be a message about how everybody is (& was) adapting to technology, really. READ IT!!! ~~Hannah~~"
(YES!! ~~Hannah~~ 10/20/2006 2:00:23 PM )
"What is the initial complication of the story? "
(Jethro 10/30/2006 2:22:18 PM )
"that story was creepy and we read it in grade 9"
(wendy 11/23/2006 9:20:19 PM )
"Ha!! We are reading it now in grade 8 and it is making perfect sense. Perhaps some people cannnot look past the plain black and white into the veiled metaphors and symbolism."
( 11/28/2006 3:31:24 PM )
"I'm doing a junior research project on it. As we speak, I'm in the A206 computer lab. I think the book was the kind to make you think about it for a couple of days on how you want to change your life, and imagine how you would be if we didn't have all the things that we do. i bet half of us wouldn't survive w/o our cell phones...lol"
(~Desire~ 12/8/2006 9:17:28 AM )
"This book is okay. I read it with my friends in english class.:("
(Desiree 12/10/2006 12:49:51 PM )
"the book was eazy...gosh u whimps who dont understand it in grade 9 i'm in 8th!"
(halle 12/11/2006 7:40:57 PM )
"Wow, way to DISCUSS the book guys! Instead of saying hoiw easy to read and to understand the story was, try actually commenting on the story. Just a thought!"
(Gr.10 478 12/18/2006 6:18:09 PM )
"I'm writing a sequel to the story for English and I'm currently trying to decide what will happen to David in the story. This should be fun!!!"
(Gr. 10 478 12/18/2006 6:20:23 PM )
"We have answer a bunch of questions on the book and I was wondering how this story is a metaphor for our lives?"
( 12/18/2006 7:01:49 PM )
"this was a pretty good book, i like it anyways, its very well written. fairly easy to understand."
(JD 1/15/2007 3:34:04 PM )
"Weird book, it wasn't bad though. Short and easy"
( 1/22/2007 2:53:39 PM )
"i didnt mind it when i just read it today in summerschool. it was okay"
( 6/19/2007 6:16:57 PM )
"wow...i just read it today in summer school too :)"
( 7/5/2007 12:32:49 AM )
"Overall the story had an sci fic theme, and the message of this book was that high technology goods can end up costing your family's relationships or even their lives.
I think it's kinda surprising how Ray Bradbury was thinking even when he wrote this book in early 1950's, he had an very lovely fantasy with many variations and of course he was right. For example who can live without their cell phones nowadays?

I can, but there are people who CAN'T. We are dependent on modern technology. "
( 8/28/2007 9:14:45 PM )

"can anyone find examples of metaphors in dis story??? i only found one.. and im in grade 8 too!!!"
(michael 9/15/2007 10:11:01 AM )
"haha! when i saw the key words(nursery and lions) i thought this story was about lions eating babies!"
(michael 9/15/2007 10:13:07 AM )
"Wow,did these parents raise their children to kill them? What an evil thanks."
(dina 9/17/2007 4:11:54 PM )
"this is definitely not too much for the grade 9 level. We read it in grade 8 and had no trouble"
( 10/13/2007 5:38:20 PM )
"did anyone read "the city" ?"
( 10/13/2007 5:39:36 PM )
"Are you referring to The City and the Stars, by Arthur C. Clarke? The Sagas in that story are a very early reference to the idea of a virtual reality presentation like The Veldt."
( 10/14/2007 1:05:32 PM )
"Did any of you figure out that Bradbury uses an allusion by refering to Peter Pan. Look at the names (Wendy and Peter) "
(9th grade student 11/3/2007 5:08:03 PM )
"What are the questions?"
( 1/8/2008 5:04:59 PM )
"i read in 7th grade with my class. its good and it is 7th grade material cuz i read it also in 5th"
(hihi 3/10/2008 11:58:35 AM )
"I read this story in grade 9 and a second time in college iloved it "
( 4/28/2008 9:16:17 AM )
"this story was creepy, not gunna lie. im in 9th grade and now writing a paper on how it compares with peter pan... very interesting"
( 5/11/2008 3:56:04 PM )
"I thought that this was a very interesting story. I read it for AP English Lit (12th grade) and I am doing and analysis of it. Though the plot is predictable, there is much more going on under the surface. you can't take this at face value, you have to look at what Bradbury was trying to express to us, and make new connections. I thought it was overall a good story."
(ansley 9/9/2008 10:40:12 AM )
"i hate writing questions on the stupid story too! why do we care about it any way? "
( 11/14/2008 4:24:31 PM )
"listening to this story made me think that having a nursery like that would be kinda kool( i know its fiction) "
( 11/14/2008 4:27:48 PM )
"I was wondering, what is the families last name again?"
( book worm 11/25/2008 6:04:47 PM )
"too easy!!!dumb story."
( 1/26/2009 11:40:46 AM )
"amazing book love the twisted ending"
(Masterchief 2/9/2009 8:03:41 PM )
""i have to read this story for class what is i about?""
(vampires 3/12/2009 8:51:38 PM )

( 3/19/2009 7:04:11 AM )
"whats up with this story it is really disturbing? the parents get killed "
(lala 4/9/2009 9:10:44 AM )
"I think Bradbury is pointing out that we are becoming too reliant on technology for our own good."
( 4/16/2009 3:11:39 PM )
"""Did the parents end up being eaten by the lions and what happened with David Mclean? Wouldn't he have seen the lions eating the parents when he watched them feeding?" One can assume that yes, the parents were eaten by the lions. Also, I believe it was stated in the book that the lions were too far away for him to clearly see what they were eating. Either that, or they had just eaten too much for the remains to be recognizable as human at the distance they were at."
(Ryuuko 4/24/2009 6:39:28 AM )
"The Veldt and Peter Pan do have alot of similaritys. Names: Peter, Wendy, George, In Peter Pan the father doesnt want Wendy in the nursery anymore and she doesnt like that. its got minor connections, im not sure if these were on purpose or just coincedence that mean nothing but its something to ponder."
( 9/19/2009 10:34:48 AM )
"ALSO, anyone here read "there will come soft rains" by bradbury? theres TONS of refrences. the name McLean (or something similar) the nursery, the house..."
( 9/19/2009 10:39:20 AM )
"A truly artful and chilling story of the cold war. Read about the cute little dustmice cleaning robots from that story."
(Bill Christensen 9/19/2009 10:50:56 AM )
"I think that the book was messed up and the kids ended up being so terrible.i think that the author is crazy, its just a retarded story"

" does the parents end up dieing? "

"what r the goals and motivations for wendy and peter what r they likely to do with david "
(keith 12/11/2009 9:18:29 AM )
"the veldt is simmilar to peter pan...if u watched the disney classic peter pan there was a dog named nanna who took care of the children. the parents in peter pan thought the children were to old for a "babysitter" so they took nanna away. peter and wendy went to neverland to escape adulthood. the nursery is both neverland and nanna, taking care of them and letting them do as they please.(in eight grade heehee)"
(Morgan 12/28/2009 7:12:52 PM )
"So what happened to the parents and how did the 3 dimensional "things" come to life????"
(What the f? 2/6/2010 9:35:18 PM )

(Aleena 3/10/2010 5:40:08 PM )
"i read this in grade 8 and i think it is not a bad book. i liked the house."
(khush 3/15/2010 6:35:58 PM )
"are they virtually dead? or actually dead?"
( 5/8/2010 8:33:36 PM )
"iam in the 9th grade and i love this story but the story is sick and the teachers should not give this kind of text. this is not the story for 9th graders. this is a horror story."
(tamara 6/10/2010 10:25:12 PM )
"Watched the film for "The Veldt" today in English. Pretty good but Peter and Wendy are plain creepy. I have to analyze it for homework and I'm wondering how is related to Peter Pan? Please answer!"
(Harry Potter 10/21/2010 1:26:33 PM )
"Where can I find the movie for this story?"
(nope 10/22/2010 7:59:36 PM )
"i have never thought peter pan creepy till i read this story...anyways! in the veldt the first quote in the story "George, i wish you'd look at the nursery" has to do something with peter pan..i can't remember if the mom says that or not in the peter pan movie, does she ? "
(weylie 11/28/2010 7:45:29 PM )
"I am in sixth grade and I read this story. It is pretty sad that a ninth grader doesn't understand this story, while I do"
(pwn you 11/30/2010 5:23:44 PM )
"The story was good, and Ray made the children look especially evil. Overall good story, although, very old and short compared to other books these days. By the way, I read it and I'm in sixth grade."
(Frank Woods 11/30/2010 5:31:30 PM )
"Lol, Frank, you're in sixth grade too?"
(pwn you 11/30/2010 5:32:49 PM )
"Nope, sorry, I meant that I had read it when I was in sixth grade, a few years ago."
(Frank Woods 11/30/2010 5:33:52 PM )
"Oh okay, by the way, is that a fake name, Frank Woods from Call of Duty: Black Ops?"
(pwn you 11/30/2010 5:34:46 PM )
"Wow, the kid would make a reference to Call of Duty. There is no way to prove that my name is really Frank Woods, but considering that I fought in SOG with some dude named Alex Mason, I'm pretty sure. rofl. Just joking, and yes my name is Frank Woods."
(Frank Woods 11/30/2010 5:35:26 PM )
"I'm not sure if the person who asked this question might still need some help, but they are related to Peter Pan, because of the way they dress, and her name is Wendy."
(Wesley Gonzales 11/30/2010 5:37:37 PM )
"Never mind my comment, the person's post is over a month old."
(Wesley Gonzales 11/30/2010 5:40:48 PM )
"Even though the psot asking for metaphors is over two years old. It's pretty easy to find them. Metaphors plus similies..... The smell of dust like a red paprika.... He could feel it on his neck.... like a hot paw.... Lurking.... with...butterflies, like animated bouquets. Theres a lot more."
(Wesley Gonzales 11/30/2010 5:46:53 PM )
"Don't worry about the age of some of the posts; people have been reading through the questions and answers for years."
(Bill Christensen 12/1/2010 9:32:47 PM )
"2011!! The author wants readers to compare the lives of peter and wendy, with the story petr pan. the scarf, wallet and the screams appear because wendy and peter are practicing killing their parents if they turn off the house."
(-`AloNe 1/10/2011 6:00:13 PM )
"Well, i really liked it and didn't think it was difficult to read at all, and i'm in grade level 8."
(Meghan 1/25/2011 5:00:14 PM )
"This page is dead. Come on people! We need more posts!"
(iamdisappoint 2/14/2011 4:34:29 PM )
"Are the parents really dead or was this another fantasy of the children? Or was the parents death just to illustrate that the parents felt useless and it wasn't even real?"
(Aimee 3/14/2011 3:51:57 PM )
"I'min *th grade weread it for a searseof things in our classwe don't have to combare anithing and what dose peter pan have to do with the story"
(Jonathan 9/21/2011 10:19:53 AM )
"I had to read this story for a school project, and I loved it! What happened to the parents? Was it real? Or was it just another fantasy? I don't know. . . . "
( 11/9/2011 1:37:25 PM )
"it was a pretty good book, gave lots of info, i felt like i was in the story. i really got into it. But, was is the main conflict?"
(hi 11/15/2011 2:15:11 PM )
"I think it was a well written book. There are still some question I have. How does a 3D odorophonics and Sonaronics machine kill someone? I read it in English 9 Class"
(Nik (Grade 9) 2/28/2012 3:59:38 PM )
"Lol at people complaining about questions, try to do a 5 page essay on why the story's 'interesting'..... Wtf? "
(Braydon 4/1/2012 9:25:22 PM )
"I'm reading this in 6th grade in an advanced class and I think it has a bit too much depth for some of the students in my class."
(anonymous 11/7/2012 6:49:36 PM )
"really it is well written short story ,but what are the main msgs"
(natasha 1/16/2013 1:41:57 PM )
"what are some similarities and differences between "The Veldt" and "Peter Pan"? List some, please?"
(nik valcic 2/11/2013 5:38:37 PM )
"Some similarities between "The Veldt" and "Peter Pan" are the children's names, Peter and Wendy, the use of a nursery, the children's desire to escape reality and the parents are disconnected from the children in both stories. "
(Madman 2/17/2013 10:15:54 PM )
