Say Goodby to the Wind by J.G. Ballard:
Science Fiction Inventions, Technology and Ideas

"Come to Vermilion Sands, where J. G. Ballard weaves a strange tale of social and scientific extrapolation with the haunting moodiness of an underwater dream... a tale of bio-fabrics, clothes that have a life of their own, and the way they use their owners; and of a teeny-bopper sex-goddess, who dances late at night, alone, in an abandoned nightclub to the tune of an old phonograph record..."

('Say Good-By to the Wind' by J.G. Ballard)

Interesting short story set in Vermillion Sands. Mr. Sampson, shop-owner, meets his neighbor Raine Channing and her twisted past. They're doomed. Select an invention:

Bio-Fabric - living cloth
Living cloth that constantly adapts itself to the personality and needs of its wearer.

Inert-Wear - unfashionably static
Clothing made of dead fibers; clothing that is unmoving, static.
