reLive Memorial Come Back As A Tree

The reLive project is a process to return the human body to nature in a 4-step, CO2-neutral process.

  1. The average cremation furnace releases 250 kgs of CO2 per person. To mitigate this carbon footprint, reLive works with crematoriums who use renewable energy to power their furnaces, or offsets the carbon expended.
  2. After cremation, ash remains are '“planted” – or combined with seeds and soil. Sapling incubation is a 6-9 month process, during which time saplings grow under the watchful eyes of experienced plant experts.
  3. Whether one chooses a reLive Forest, a natural burial ground or one’s own backyard as the final resting place, reLive’s experts ensure the optimal planting conditions for saplings to turn into healthy trees that prosper into the future.
  4. To help each human scale their impact, 100 additional “legacy trees” are planted with each reLive memorial tree. reLive works with tree experts who go about planting with both the planet and local communities in mind.
In his 1954 story Of Withered Apples, science fiction writer Philip K. Dick writes about a woman who picks the last apple from an ancient tree that is determined to live on.

Lori picked the leaf up. It was old and brown. Her heart skipped a beat as she slipped the leaf into the pocket of her jeans. Against her loins the leaf cut and tingled, a little hard point piercing her smooth skin and sending exciting shivers up and down her spine. She stood at the open window a moment, sniffing the air. The air was full of the presence of trees and rocks, of great boulders and remote places. It was time - time to go again. She touched the leaf. She was wanted.
