"Varley? better idea"

"But as the book explains, there are also advantages to not remembering what has happened. If something was so bad that it drove you to suicide (and this is a world where you'll be ressurected in a new body) would you really want to remember it? Additionally, the remote backup is simply a backup not against death but failure of the cortical stack. If a cortical stack is recovered in tact then the contained persona can be ressurected with no memory loss (disregarding the risks of recovery, particularly when the death was traumatic). The system also has other advantages. A person can be loaded into a computer generate world - and in the case of the book - tortured repeatedly to death to gain information from them."

"Don't look if you don't want a spoiler. The other quirk related to scheduled downloads refers to military data-warfare. If you have what boils down to a hard drive in your head, with the capability to be accessed in some way, there's a possibility that a sufficiently sophisticated viral attack can penetrate and cause what amounts to brain damage. Viral strike! Stack down!"

"Also, the waking up body will still not be you, just a copy of yourself. You will not wake up from that"
