"your last comment was what I was looking for. Runcible was the first coding method I learned for the IBM 650 at Georgia Tech dmoser@alltel.net"
(Dave 3/21/2005 5:01:48 PM )
"Wait a minute, wasn't Runcible the code name of the project instead of a technical term?"
( 12/3/2005 2:37:58 PM )
"Isn't the runcible the teleportation device in Neal Asher's books?"
(Jo Cartner 3/2/2006 8:17:18 AM )
"Yes - the name has been used by various authors. Asher, talking about his book Runcible Tales, says "The inspiration for the Runcible has only fictional sources and is not exactly a new idea: you have Larry Niven's teleportation booths, C.J. Cherryh's Gates in those wonderful Morgaine novels, and much else beside." The word itself was coined in the late nineteenth century by Edward Lear - a nonsense word."
(Bill Christensen 4/29/2007 9:53:39 AM )
